Reducing and recycling waste

Policy objective 5

Our ambition

We don’t want to increase the amount of waste in landfills. That’s why we largely avoid non-recoverable waste and recycle where possible. We realise that this also requires permanent awareness, which must be expressed on the shop floor on a daily basis.

Our objectives and practical examples

Non-recyclable waste will not increase

Regardless of our growth, the percentage of non-recyclable waste we produce at H.Essers will not increase.

Operation Clean Sweep (OCS)

This international programme, drawn up by the American Chemistry Council’s Plastics Division and the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS), has been implemented in Europe since 2015 and aims to get companies to make a commitment to prevent the loss of plastic granules and their release into the environment. Our company has signed the pledge.

Roll compactor for the processing of wood waste

Our site in Boom serves, among other things, as the European distribution centre for a global glass manufacturer. When imported, these windscreens are usually packed in custom-made wooden crates. To limit the volume of this packaging material, we invested in an on-site roll compactor. The purpose of this installation is to crush the empty crates, which results in a drastic reduction of wood waste by a staggering 75%.
